Biography

Judy Strong played hockey (field), basketball, and softball at Smith Academy and then at the University of Massachusetts played hockey and basketball as a freshman, but then dropped basketball and played lacrosse along with hockey for the rest of her college career. In 1981, in hockey she helped the Minuteman get to the 1981 NCAA final, and was named the Mitchell and Ness Player of the Year. Strong was on the 1980 US Olympic team that did not compete. She later became a physical education teacher at Smith College and in the late 1980s was hired there as the school field hockey and women’s lacrosse coach. She coached lacrosse for 16 seasons and hockey for 20. Strong also became an elite high school and college referee in both sports.
