Biography

Joan Moore was US Champion in all-around for four consecutive years, 1971-74, tying in 1971 with Linda Metheny. She also won six apparatus titles at the nationals from 1971-74, and her 10 national titles is second only to Clara Schroth-Lomady’s untouchable mark of 39. Moore competed at the 1970 and 1974 World Championships and then retired. She started coaching and served for 11 years on the US Gymnastics Federation Board of Directors, as Joan Rice. Moore’s daughter, Jeana Rice, won the 2004 NCAA title in all-around. Moore later married a second time to Ray Gnat, and in 1997 the couple started Ace Gymnastics in Longwood, Florida, where they both coach.
