While attending the University of Denver, Jerome Biffle won the 1950 NCAA long jump title. In 1951 he joined the army and competed only in minor service meets, but in 1952, after being injured in the spring, he placed third in the AAU and then finished second to Meredith Gourdine at the Final Trials. In Helsinki, Biffle was lying second to Gourdine after two rounds, but moved into the lead with his third jump. Although his final three jumps were fouls, that third round effort of 24-10 (7.57) brought him the gold medal. Biffle worked for many years in the Denver school system as a college counselor.
Personal Best: LJ – 7.81 (1950).
