Biography

Hugo Dollheiser, brother of Hans-Jürgen Dollheiser, played field hockey for Club Raffelberg Duisburg and won the West German Championships in 1951 and 1953. Both brothers then moved to Preußen Duisburg before Hugo finally moved to Uhlenhorst Mülheim. With this club he added three more West German Championships (1958, 1960, and 1964). For the German national team Hugo earned 36 international caps between 1952 and 1958, including his participation in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where Germany lost the quarter-final 0-1 to the Netherlands. In 1954 Dollheiser was on the West Germany team that won the unofficial European Championships, and at the Melbourne Olympics two years later he won a surprise bronze medal after Germany beat Great Britain 3-1 in the third place match.
