In a race that will live long in the memory, Nils van der Poel of Sweden set a new Olympic record to win gold in the men's 5000m speed skating competition at Beijing 2022.

Nils Van der Poel becomes the second Swedish Olympic champion in the 5000m after Tomas Gustafson in 1984 and 1988.
