Biography

Gisela Beyer came from a top sporting family. Her brothers Peter and Hans-Georg – who won a gold medal 1980 – were handball players and Udo won Olympic gold in 1976 and bronze in 1980 as a shot putter, and her sister Angelika played handball, while another sister, Gudrun, became physiotherapist for the reunified German fencing team in 1992. She herself came in fourth in the discus throw at Moscow.

Gisela was first married to the hammer thrower Karl-Heinz Reißmüller, and later re-married, only to divorce again. She was educated as a specialized seller of sports articles. Gisela Beyer won East German national titles in the discus throw in 1983-84, and took part in the European Championships in 1982 (fourth) and the World Championships 1983 (fifth).

Personal Best: DT – 73.10 (1984).
