Biography

George Watson studied at the Royal Academy School in London. He then became an English portrait and figure painter of the late romantic school with an eye to the Italian Renaissance. Watson was quickly accepted and lauded in the artistic community of England. He won the Royal Academy School’s silver medals in 1889 and 1891, plus the Landseer Scholarship in 1892. His wife Hilda was a dancer and mime artist, while their daughter Mary Spencer Watson became a well-known sculptor.
