After leaving Dublin University, George Mayberry joined Clonliffe Harriers (Ireland) and was later President of the club. He was one of three ex -Clonliffe Harriers members to compete at the 1908 Olympics, John Reid and Joe Deakin being the others, although Deakin had returned to England in 1903 and was a member of Herne Hill Harriers at the time of the Games. Originally a miler in his younger days at University, Mayberry represented Great Britain in the triple jump at the Olympics, but he was an outstanding high jumper and was runner-up at the IAAA Championships on four occasions, 1906-07 (to Con Leahy) and 1910 -11. He won his first international cap for Ireland in the meeting with Scotland in 1906. Mayberry served with the Royal Army Medical Corps from 1914-19 reaching the rank of captain. Between 1927-49 Doctor Mayberry was the medical superintendent of Dagenham Sanatorium and Landon Hills Sanatorium for Children
