Biography

Forest Fletcher competed for Notre Dame and later the 1st Regiment AA. He earned a degree in electrical engineering from Notre Dame while captaining the track team. Fletcher began teaching math and coaching at Mitchell High School in South Dakota and then at Utah State Normal School. In 1914 he came to Washington and Lee University where he established the university’s physical education department. He taught at W&L for 28 years before retiring in 1942 due to poor health. Fletcher was one of the group that helped form the Southern Conference in 1921. He was President of the Southern Conference from 1934-36.
