Biography

Ferenc Konrád started playing water polo with Lokomotív Budapest and from 1956-66 played with BVSC Budapest. From 1966-80, Konrád was with Orvosegyetem SC, before finishing his career with Külker SC in 1980-82. With OSC, Konrád won Hungarian titles in 1966, 1969-1974 and 1978, European Champions Cups in 1972 and 1978, and Hungarian Cups in 1970 and 1974. He was named 1966 Hungarian water polo player-of-the-year. Konrád was capped 178 times with the Hungarian national team between 1963-76 and won Olympic gold in 1976, silver in 1972 and bronze in 1968. He was also World Champion in 1973, won silver at the 1975 World Championships, was European Champion in 1974, won silver at the 1970 European Championships and gold at the 1965 Universiade.

Konrád graduated from Semmelweis University with a dental degree in 1971 and from 1974-92 worked at the Children Dentistry and Orthodontic Clinic of Semmelweiss University. Since 1992, he was an assistant professor with his alma mater and also operated a private practice. Konrád also served as a water polo coach, coaching Spartacus Budapest in the 1980s, and as a water polo referee. His brothers János and Sándor were also international level water polo players, Sándor winning a European title in 1962 and János an Olympic title in 1964.
