Ernesto AMBROSINI

Ernesto Abrosini started running in 1912, soon after joining US Monza, where he became head of the club’s athletic section. Together with his twin brother Michele, a gifted footballer, Ambrosini served in World War I. Both were injured but while his brother died from complications Ernesto survived and recovered. In Antwerpen, he competed in the 800 and the 3,000 metre team event in addition to the steeplechase, where he won a bronze medal. Four years later at the Paris Games, he failed to qualify for the finals in both the steeplechase and the team race. His best time in the 3,000 m steeplechase was an unofficial world record in 1923. Between 1920 and 1923 he won 10 Italian titles over various distances: 800 m – 1920; 1,500 – 1920-21; 5,000 – 1922-23; 1,200 m steeplechase – 1920-22; 3,000 m steeplechase – 1923; and cross-country in 1922. His profession was as a typographer.
