Biography

Dubravko Mataković was a slalom canoeist who competed at the 1972 München Olympics. Mataković competed at the World Championships in various events from 1965-87. He won multiple Yugoslav and Croatian championships in slalom and downhill canoeing.

Mataković later became a canoeing coach, and was Yugoslavia's downhill coach from 1989-91, and Croatia's downhill coach from 1992-98. From 1990-97 he coached athletes to seven gold medals at the senior and junior World and European championships. Mataković was named the winner of the 1977 Sports News Fair Play Award and the 1989 Golden Wings Technical Culture Award.

Mataković had studied physics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. For many years he was employed by the Croatian Railways IT sector. He also had a business repairing and constructing fiberglass canoes and boats.
