Biography

Long-distance runner Detlef Uhlemann finished 10th in the 5K at the 1976 Montréal Olympic Games. He was also eliminated in the heats of the 10K. Uhlemann competed at the 1977 World Cup (fourth in 10K), and the 1974 and 1978 European Championships, without distinction. He was runner-up in the 10K at both the 1973 and 1977 European Cups. In 1977 he won his only international medal at the International Cross-Country Championships, also competing in that event in 1973-74, 1976, 1979, and 1981. Domestically Uhlemann won six West German titles in different distances.

Uhlemann later worked for the German Bundeswehr. In January 2005 he was named discipline coach for long-distance running by the German Athletics Association (DLV).

Personal Bests: 5000 – 13:21.07 (1976); 10000 – 27:42.09 (1977).
