Biography

After the 1976 Montreal Olympics Christina Brehmer married 400 metre runner Siegmar Lathan and started at the 1980 Olympics under his name, but the couple would later divorce. Brehmer-Lathan won the 1977 and 1979 World Cup with the East German 4×400 relay team, and was runner-up in the 1979 4×100. At the European Championship she earned a silver medal over 400 metres and a gold in the 4×400 relay. She also won several national titles: 1976 50 and 100 metres indoor, 1978 4×400 metres, and 1979 at 400 metres. She also set 11 world records over different distances as a junior and an adult. At the 1976 Olympics she won a 4×400 relay gold and a 400 metre silver, while in 1980 she won silver in the relay and bronze in the open 400. She then studied economics and was employed by the Public Order Office at Großräschen.
