Chick McIlroy played for the US in water polo at the 1960 and 1964 Olympics, alongside his brother Ned McIlroy in 1964. Chick McIlroy played at Long Beach State and for the El Segundo Swim Club. He was also on the US Pan American team in 1959, winning a gold medal, and in 1963, winning a silver. Chick McIlroy was an AAU All-American in 1959-60 and 1964. He is a member of the US Water Polo Hall of Fame. After his two Olympic appearances he stayed involved in the sport, teaching and coaching water polo in the Palos Verdes School District, and he played masters-level water polo up into his late 60s. After retiring from teaching, he returned to Redondo Beach, working part-time as a lifeguard.
