Charles Edgar NORRIS

Edgar Norris was a member of the Toronto Argonauts Rowing Club when they earned the right to represent Canada in the men’s eights at the 1928 Summer Olympics by defeating the Winnipeg Rowing Club at the trials. At the tournament he won a bronze medal, alongside John Donnelly, Frank Fiddes, Jack Hand, Frederick Hedges, Athol Meech, Jack Murdoch, Herbert Richardson, and William Ross, after defeating Poland in the quarterfinals and losing to the United States in the semifinals. He later worked as a public servant and became city clerk for Toronto in 1958. During his tenure in this position, he compiled several editions of the city’s municipal handbook. He retired in 1971, received Toronto’s Civic Award of Merit the following year, and eventually moved to Florida, where he lived until his death in April 1982.
