Biography

As a youth, Boris Gurevich was active in gymnastics and did not take up wrestling until 1948, quickly rising to become one of the top Soviet, and later international, Greco-Roman flyweight wrestlers of the 1950s. During his career, Gurevich won Olympic gold in 1952 and World titles in 1953 and 1958. Domestically, Gurevich won two Soviet titles, in 1950 in Greco-Roman flyweight and in 1955 in bantamweight. He also won three silver medals (1952, 1959 and 1960) and one bronze (1963) at the Soviet Championships, all in Greco-Roman bantamweight. After finishing his sporting career Gurevich worked as a wrestling coach in Moscow. Since 1996 an annual international youth tournament in his honor has been held in Moscow.
