Biography

Bjarne Riis was a Danish professonal whose major win was the 1996 Tour de France, in which he ended the five-year winning streak of Miguel Indurain. Riis was also Danish Champion on the roads in 1992 and 1995, and won the 1997 Amstel Gold Race. After his retirement he became a team director, most notably from 2001-05 with Team CSC and CSC/Tiscali, and later Team Saxobank. In 2007 he admitted to have doped during his career, and specifically in 1996 when he won the Tour. At first it was thought the title might be removed but he continues to be listed as the winner of the 1996 Tour de France.
