Biography

Axel Persson competed in two Olympics, before and after World War I in road racing, and won a gold medal in 1912 and silver in 1920, both in the team event. His best result individually was ninth in 1912. Person won nine Swedish titles on the road and track, winning the sprint, and the individual and team trial. In 1919, he was also Scandinavian champion in the road time trial. He won the 1914 Swedish Mälaren Rundt (tour around Lake Mälaren) on the very day when the Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, was shot in Sarajevo.
