Biography

A specialist in the heavy events, Percy Spark won the shot, discus, and hammer at the 1926 Midland Championships and later in the season competed against France in all three events. He was also the Midland shot champion in 1924-25. His best performance at the AAAs was fourth in the hammer in 1924. After serving with the RAMC in World War I he later attended Edinburgh University and placed in the first three a total of seven times in the shot, discus, hammer, and javelin at the Scottish Championships 1924-26. At the 1924 Olympics he withdrew from the decathlon after seven events and in the pentathlon, he was eliminated after three events. After graduating, he took up a medical practice in Stoke and served as Mayor of the City in 1949-50.
