Arlie Max MUCKS

Arlie Mucks won the AAU shot put in 1915-17 and the AAU discus throw in 1915-17 and 1919. He was an All-American football player as a tackle at the University of Wisconsin in 1914. Mucks became a farmer in 1917 but in 1926 returned to Wisconsin where he served for 31 years as a livestock specialist and a professor in the agricultural extension services. After retirement he worked as a consultant to Oscar Mayer.

Mucks was secretary of the Wisconsin Livestock Breeding Association for 28 years. He was a director of the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago from 1941 until his death, and was a director of the Dane County Fairgrounds Advisory Committee. In other fields, Mucks was a director of drought relief for Wisconsin, a director of Rural Rehabilitation, and director of Farm Labor in Wisconsin during World War II. In 1951 he became chairman of the State Displaced Persons Committee. Mucks was inducted in the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1964.
