Biography

Antonina Okorokova (later Lazareva) was the leading Soviet female high jumper in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Okorokova first medaled internationally at the 1968 European Indoor Championships, where she won a bronze medal. She next competed at the 1968 Olympics, winning a silver medal. In 1969 Okorokova won silver at the European Championships and another bronze at the European Indoor Championships. She also won gold at the 1967 European Cup and silver at the 1970 European Cup. Okorokova competed at the 1971 European Championships and 1972 Olympics, but did not get past qualifying either time. Okorokova won Soviet titles in 1967-68, 1970, and 1972-73.
