Alysa Liu

Alysa Liu is a two-time U.S. champion in figure skating, in 2019 and 2020. Her victory in 2019 came at age 13, making her the youngest female to ever win a U.S. national title.

The 2020 world junior bronze medalist, she made her senior international debut in September 2021, winning two ISU Challenger level events. The second was at Nebelhorn Trophy, where she helped secure the U.S. team a third women’s quota spot for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Liu has competed with both the triple Axel and quadruple Lutz in her repertoire, and was the first female skater to ever land both of those jumps in a single program during the 2019 Junior Grand Prix stop in Lake Placid, New York. In 2021, Liu placed fifth at Skate Canada in October, followed by a fourth-place finish at NHK Trophy in November.

Despite withdrawing from the U.S. national championships – the final event in the American team's Olympic selection calendar – due to Covid-19, Liu was named to the U.S. Olympic team for Beijing 2022.

In the Chinese capital, Liu competed in the women's event but opted not to attempt the triple Axel in her short program. In her free skate, Liu attempted the jump, but saw her effort downgraded by the technical panel. She opted not to perform any quads in her routine, which scored 139.45 points for a total of 208.95. Liu finished seventh in the event (as of 2 March 2022, full results of the women's singles event are provisional).
