Biography

Aleksey Voropayev won six major international titles during his career. Four of these came in team competitions with the Russian team, which won the 1991 World Championships, the 1996 European Championships and the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games (the former as the Unified Team). Voropayev added an individual world title on the parallel bars (1992) and a European title on the horizontal bar (1996). In 1994, he won two silvers at the World Championships, in both the individual and team all-around competitions. Voropayev died aged only 33 in late 2006, having been hospitalized with hepatitis C a few months earlier.
