Biography

Albert Oldman, a City of London policeman who had earlier served in the Horse Guards, qualified for the final of the heavyweight division at the 1908 Olympics with a quick KO over Ian Myrams of Manchester followed by a bye in the semi-finals. In the final, Oldman faced Syd Evans of Reading, the current ABA champion, but unfortunately Evans had injured his shoulder in an earlier round and was no match for the aggressive policeman. Oldman won by a KO within two minutes and took the gold medal after fighting for a total of less than one round throughout the entire competition. In 1910, he left England to join the Ceylon police.
