Biography

Abbondio Marcelli rowed the stern of the coxless four for Italy at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. The same crew won that title at the 1956 European Championships in Bled, Slovenia, Yugoslavia. In 1957 Marcelli won three major titles, winning the Italian Championship in the fours without and the eight, and winning at the European Championship in the eight in Duisburg, West Germany. In 2006, on the 50th anniversary of their European Championship, Marcelli and his teammates in the four, Giuseppe Moioli, Attilio Cantoni, and Giovanni Zucchi, were made honorary members of Moto Guzzi Rowing.
