Although generally a less successful skater than his older brother Yasunori, Yukinori did better in the Olympics. In Albertville, Yukinori won an unexpected bronze medal in the 1000 m, his best event. 1992 was Miyabe's best year, winning the Japanese sprint title and placing fourth in the World Sprint Championships. In 1995, Miyabe won his only international prize, winning the 1000 m World Cup after three victories early in the season. After this success, Miyabe enjoyed occasional success (such as his fourth World Cup win in 1996), but never did well again in international championships. He retired in 1999.
