Biografie

Bill Baillie was a distance runner who finished sixth in the 5,000 metres at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Baillie competed four times at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games. He finished fourth in the 1954 880 yards and seventh in the 1 mile. In 1958, he finished ninth in the 3 miles and was eliminated in the heats of the 1 mile. In 1962 he did not finish the 6 mile race, but in the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games he finished ninth in the 6 miles.

Baillie won 15 New Zealand Championships over distances from 880 yards to 6 miles. Those titles were as follows: 880 yds – 1954-55; Mile – 1956, 1961; 3-miles – 1956; 6-miles – 1959-60, 1963-67; 10-miles (road) – 1965; Cross-country – 1960, 1963. In August 1963 Baillie broke the world records for 20,000 metres and for the 1 hour run on a track. He also won the Australian 3-mile championship in 1964.
