Biografie
Wenyen Gabriel was born in Khartoum and moved to the United States with his parents when he was three years old to escape the civil war in South Sudan.
Gabriel grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire, where he was first introduced to basketball. It would ultimately lead him to the top echelons of the sport.
The centre/power forward played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats before making an impression in the NBA.
He suited up for the Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Memphis Grizzlies.
Gabriel made his debut for South Sudan at FIBA World Cup 2023, where team – in their first appearance at the global showpiece – made history to earn a Paris 2024 Olympic berth as the best African side.
