Biografie

Teruji Kogake was ranked third in the world in the triple jump in 1954. In 1956 at the Japanese Olympic Trials, he soared 16.48 m, a low-altitude world-best and the second longest mark to date. He placed only eighth at the 1956 Olympics, but was world-ranked fourth for the year. He later became a coach and athletics administrator, serving as Vice-President of the Japanese Athletics Federation, Vice-President of the Japanese Olympic Committee from 1999-2003, and as a member of the IAAF Veterans’ Committee (1995-2007). Kogake was awarded the Olympic Order in silver in 2002, and in 2005 was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.
