Biografie

Bantamweight boxer Stefan Förster was eliminated in the eighth-final at the 1972 München Olympics by upcoming silver medalist Alfonso Zamora from Mexico. He came back in 1976 to Montréal and reached the quarter-finals, losing to Victor Rybakov from Soviet Russia by a close 3-2 decision. From 1971-78 Förster earned eight East German amateur titles in a row. He also won the European Championships in 1973 and 1977, and participated in 1975 and 1979 with lower success. Beside these achievements Förster won the Chemie-Cup in Halle in 1972, 1974, and 1976, and also the international TSC Berlin tournament in 1973, 1974, and 1977. In 1974 and 1978 he also competed at the World Championships, taking bronze in 1978.

Förster trained in the electromechanical field, but later graduated as a sports teacher. He then turned to coaching until reunification, after which he was employed by a security company.
