Biografie

Stan Cox placed fourth in the AAA 3 miles in 1939 and, after the war, won the AAA 6 miles in 1948 and placed second in 1949. He then turned to the marathon and, although overshadowed by Jim Peters, he was ranked among the world's best. Cox placed second at the AAA marathon three times (1952, 1954, 1956) and he also finished second in the Poly race five times (1951-54, 1956). He dropped out of the 1952 Olympic marathon and, like Jim Peters, he suffered from severe sunstroke in the notorious race at the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games and retired with two miles to go after running into a post. In the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 6 miles he finished fifth. In the British Empire and Commonwealth Games he competed for England.
