Sid Jelinek got his start rowing on the lightweight crew for Penn in 1920. By the following year he had moved up to the big boat and sat in the seventh seat on their eight for three years. He also played on the Penn water polo team. At the 1924 Olympic Trials, the Penn eight failed to defeat Yale for the Olympic berth, but Jelinek made the team in the fours with, rowing for the Bachelor’s Barge Club. Jelinek later became an architect in his hometown of Philadelphia.
