Renie Cox was originally from Port Leyden, New York, where she learned to ski at Lake Placid. She attended the University of Denver, and in 1956 won a US title. Cox retired after the 1960 Winter Olympics, marrying fellow ski team member Dave Gorsuch. Together they settled in Colorado, founding Gorsuch Ltd., a specialty ski and retail shop in Gunnison. It became a popular shop with several outlets and in 1966 they moved to Vail. In Vail they became leaders of the ski community, managing Gorsuch Ltd., helping raise funds to build Vail Valley Medical Center, and helped establish the Vail Mountain School and Ski Club Vail.
