Biografie

Ray Ruddy competed as a swimmer at the 1928 Olympics and on the water polo team at the 1936 Olympics. He competed for the New York Athletic Club and Columbia University. While at Columbia, Ruddy won the 1930 NCAA title in the 400 yard freestyle. As a water poloist he played on winning New York AC teams at the AAU outdoors in 1931 and 1933-35 and indoors in 1931 and 1935-36. In the variant American form of softball water polo, he helped the NYAC win titles at the AAU Championships both indoors and outdoors in 1934-36 and 1938. Ruddy’s father, Joe Ruddy, swam and played water polo at the 1904 Olympics, while his cousin, Stephen Ruddy, swam breaststroke at the 1920 Olympics.
