Biografie

Peter Dix was born and raised in Dublin and educated at St. Columba’s College and Trinity College. He graduated from Trinity in 1976 with a degree in philosophy. Dix learnt to sail in the environs of Dublin Bay and was a member of the local Malahide Yacht Club when he joined his cousin Robert to form the Irish crew in the 470 class at the 1976 Games. His international career ended shortly afterwards when he joined the British Army and served in the Fifth Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards. After leaving the Army he settled in London and became a management consultant.

It was as part of his work that he was travelling to New York on Pan Am flight 103 on 21 December 1988 when a bomb smuggled on board by Libyan agents exploded and killed all crew and passengers, the plane crashing in Lockerbie, Scotland. He left a widow and baby son. His sister, Pamela, became one of the founders of the Disaster Action charity which provides support for the victims of the Lockerbie Bombing and relatives of victims of disasters.
