Biografie

Per Fossum competed as a teenager in ski jumping and Nordic combined, but from the mid-1930s he focused more on the new alpine events. He competed in the alpine World Championships in 1935 and 1937-39, but was also able to place sixth at the 1937 World Championships in Nordic combined in Chamonix. He is still the only skier who has competed in World Championships both in Nordic and Alpine combined. He also claimed the title as 1937 French champion in 50 km cross-country. In addition, he competed in football, athletics and orienteering. Fossum later worked as a master mason running his own firm in Oslo, and served as a council member of the Norwegian Ski Federation from 1948-50. His younger brother by one year, Arvid Fossum, was a well-known skier, and was Vice-President of the Norwegian Ski Federation in 1950-52 and President from 1953-56.
