Biografie

Livio Spanghero dedicated his life to sailing. He joined the "Società Vela Oscar Cosulich" (SVOC) in 1933, and went on to become a good skipper. Spanghero served in World War II, and after the hostilities, competed in the dinghy class at the 1948 London Olympics, finishing 14th. After retiring from active racing, he became president of SVOC.

Spanghero spent 40 years working for the Monfalcone ship yard. He was a member of the Commission of the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), and was also member of the organizing committee for the 1982 Sailing World Championships in Monfalcone. He also acted as a regatta officer in many competitions, and in 2007, Spanghero was awarded the “Stella d’argento“ (Silver star) by the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI). His two children were also good sailors, with son Guido winning a junior European title, and daughter Luisa twice an Italian women's champion.
