Biografie

Wrestler Kurt Hornfischer won the 1935 Greco-Roman heavyweight title at the European Championships, making him one of the favorites for the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Just six months ahead the Games he suffered an elbow injury. Nevertheless he managed to win the bronze medal. The following year he won his fourth European title, this time in the freestyle. He also won five German Greco-Roman titles in 1933-35, 1939 and 1942, and seven freestyle titles in 1935-38 and 1940-42. During World War II he was severely wounded on six occasions and died in 1958 following one his post-war surgeries. After the war he was employed by the town hall in his hometown Nuremberg.
