Biografie

Kornelia Marek debuted on the World Cup circuit in 2007, yet had never achieved an individual top 20 position until the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. With the Polish relay team, she had done better, placing 9th in a 2008 World Cup race, and 6th in the 2009 Word Championships in Liberec. At the 2010 Games, she posted her best ever results, again ranking 6th with the relay squad, finishing 9th in the team sprint and 11th in the 30 km mass start. However, after the relay, her urine sample was found to contain recombinant erythropoietin, or rEPO, a forbidden substance. The IOC subsequently disqualified Marek from all five Vancouver events she had competed in, while she was suspended for two years by the International Skiing Federation (FIS). Kornelia Marek, nicknamed "Kola", had previously been Polish Champion in the 15 km and had won a bronze medal (relay) in the 2007 Winter Universiad in Torino.
