Track cyclist José Mercado competed at two Olympic Games, 1964 and 1968, for Mexico. Mercado was Mexican sprint champion for nine straight years in the 1960s-70s. He also competed at the Pan American Games, the Central American Games, and several World Championships. Mercado later became a cycling coach and helped train the next generation of cyclists in his hometown of Guadalajara and at the University of Guadalajara.
