Biografie

Long-distance runner Jörg Peter won the 1985 Leipzig Marathon and the 1990 and 1991 Hamburg Marathons. He participated in the 1980 Moskva Olympics in the 10K, placing sixth, and the 1988 Olympic marathon, where he failed to finish. He also took part in the 1991 Worlds in the marathon, the 1978 Europeans in the 5K, and the 1986 Europeans in the marathon. His domestic collection of East German titles included six outdoors and one indoors title over various distances. At the 1988 Tokyo Marathon, Peter became the first German marathoner to better 2-09:00, catching Rob de Castella just before the finish.

Jörg Peter was educated as a skilled worker for plant technology in the bakery industry in the former GDR. After German reunification he first managed a transport company and eventually owned a beverage and scrap business in Dresden.

Personal Bests: 10000 – 27:55.50 (1977); Mar – 2-08:47 (1988).
