Biografie

John Bartram was a top Australian sprinter in the 1940s, eventually attending Wesley College. He first came to notice in 1939 at the Australian Boys Championships, and in 1942, became the first Victorian schoolboy to better 10 seconds for 100 yards. His best event was the 200 metres but he was not selected for that at the 1948 Olympics, where he ran the 100, 400 and 4x100. He was Australian Champion in the 220 yards in 1947 and 1951, and in the 440 yards in 1947-48. During World War II Bartram served in the Navy, mostly on New Guinea. Bartram later attended medical school and practiced as an internist well into his 70s.
