Biografie

Jenny Spangler was a marathoner who ran at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, but she did not finish the race. Spangler had won the 1996 US Olympic Trials. Her only other top 10 placement at the USA Nationals was in 1987 when she placed eighth. Spangler actually competed at every US Olympic marathon trial from 1984-2004. Her other major victory came at the 1983 Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota. She continued running at the masters’ level, winning the masters section of the 2003 Chicago Marathon, and setting an American masters’ record of 2-32:38.

Spangler ran in college at the University of Iowa where she led the team to their first Big 10 cross-country championship in 1982. She was an All-American in 1983 in the 10K on the track and in cross-country. In 1986 Spangler was given the Robert F. Ray Award for academic and athletic excellence at the University of Iowa. She was inducted into the University of Iowa Women's Track & Field Hall of Fame in 1987, and into the Road Runner’s Club of America Hall of Fame in 2007.
