Biografie

Janet Gerhauser had a long career in figure skating, in almost every aspect of the sport. She competed for the St. Paul Figure Skating Club, winning the 1947-48, and 1950 National Fours title, and the 1949 North American Fours. In pairs, she skated with John Nightingale, placing second in the US Championships in 1951 and 1952, after winning the US Junior Pairs in 1950. At the World Championships, Gerhauser and Nightingale placed eighth in 1951 and fifth in 1952. When her amateur career ended, Gerhauser became a figure skating judge. But she soon turned to coaching, spending time as a national coach. However, in the late 1970s she returned to judging, becoming certified as an international judge in 1983. Gerhauser also worked in administrative positions, serving on the Board of Directors of US Figure Skating, the World Figure Skating Museum committee, and as a chair of the World Hall of Fame electors. Gerhauser was a graduate of the University of Minnesota, and has been elected to the US Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
