Raymond Castilloux was born in Québec, Canada but visited relatives in Buffalo, New York and stayed to attend high school there. He later became a US citizen and was a steel worker in Buffalo at the time of the 1964 Olympics. Castilloux started as a speed skater but like many speed skaters, trained on bicycles in the summer and he became better at that sport. Castilloux won the 1964 US Olympic Trial road race to make the US team for Tokyo. He continued to live in the Buffalo area, where he worked for many years at Republic Steel and also ran his own bike store, Castilloux’s Olympic Bicycle Store.
