During his career, Ivan Kalita competed at five Olympic Games, in two World Championships and five European Championships and medaled in almost all of those competitions, missing a medal only at his first international tournament, the 1960 Olympic Games, and at his last international tournament, the 1976 Olympic Games. At the Olympic Games, Kalita won a full set of medals, all in the team event, a bronze in 1964, silver in 1968 and gold in 1972. At the World Championships, Kalita won gold in 1970 and silver in 1974, both in the team event. At the European Championships, Kalita won his only individual international medal, a bronze in 1973, besides three team silvers (1971, 1973, 1975) and two team bronzes (1965, 1969). Domestically, Kalita won 11 Soviet titles between 1959 and 1976. After his sporting career, Kalita worked as a dressage coach, serving as the coach of Unified Team’s Olympic dressage team in 1992.
