During his career, István Müller competed both on road and track races for the teams of Vándorkedv KE, Csillag, and Fővárosi KE. With the latter, he participated at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, where he competed both in the individual and team road race events. Although Müller was the highest ranked Hungarian, at 315 km, the race was far longer than he was used to race in Hungary. After the Olympics, Müller got married and ended his sports career.
