Biografie

While also active in long-track skating, Herrnhof was primarily a short-track skater. He first appeared at the Olympics in 1988, when the sport was still a demonstration event. With the Italian relay team, he won second place; the start of a successful era for the Italian team, as Herrnhof never reached the top individually. In that same year, the Azzurri earned a gold at the World Championships. In 1993, Italy won the World Team Championships, adding to silver in 1992 and later a bronze in 1994. In 1994 would also earn an Olympic gold in the relay, as Herrnhof won the title together with Maurizio Carnino, Orazio Fagone and Mirko Vuillermin. After his skating career, he became an administrator. In 2010, Hernnhof became Speed Skating Sports director for the International Skating Union (ISU), having served for several years as a board member in the Italian Ice Sports Federation. Herrnhof is married to a former short-track skater, Cristina Sciolla, who participated in the 1988 and 1992 Olympics.
