Biografie

Having won the East of Scotland featherweight title in 1907, Hugh Roddin retained the title the following year. A very talented and quick boxer, he also won the Scottish amateur title in 1908. At the London Olympics, Roddin won the featherweight bronze medal, after losing by decision to Charley Morris in the semi-final and, in doing so, became the first known Scottish-born boxer to win an Olympic medal. Roddin turned professional in December 1909, and was beaten in his first fight at Glasgow. However, after emigrating to Brooklyn, USA, in January 1911, he became a leading professional and won 23 fights, drawing two, and losing none. A corporal in the US Army during World War I, Roddin was also coach to various soccer teams in New York. He was elected into the Scottish Hall of Fame in 1997.
